Siena is known as the city of Palio, but there are a lot of places around the city worth beeing visited and admired. The program is set up as follows:

Sunday
Meeting at the Siena railway station and transfer to the Equestrian Tourism Centre Borgo Cignano with welcome cocktail and allocation of accommodation. Dinner at Borgo Cignano, where you will meet your equestrian guides, who will introduce you the trekking program.

Monday
Riders meet at Borgo Cignano at 9.30am, horse assignment and departure to Monteriggioni. The itinerary leads towards the hills around Cignano and Quercegrossa, covered by vineyards of the Chianti Classico and secular olive trees. Beyond the Mulino di Quercegrossa, we will ride along the mining road to reach and pass the village Lornano. Along a stretch of unpaved road and continuously surrounded by vinyards and an oak and holm forest, we will reach the flat land at the foot of the Montemaggio, dominated by the Castle of Monteriggioni, built between 1214 and 1219. The Castle of Monteriggioni is even today the entrance to the territory of Siena and the area above it has been the boundary of war for centuries.

Tuesday
Riders will be transfered to the horse stop. Departure from Monteriggioni to San Rocco a Pilli. This part of the trip leads through the Montagnola Senese, which is one of the main hilly areas around Siena. We will continue on the ancient Via Francigena, which part of a bundle of streets, also called via Romee, led from Western Europe, in particular from France, to Rome. Already in 876 many historical documents attest to the existence of the Via Francigena referring to stretches of road beaten by pilgrims.

Wednesday
Riders will be transfered to the horse stop. Departure to reach Mociano. Our route leads us thourgh the Crete Senesi, south-east from Siena. The name Crete derives from “creta”, which means clay, because of the soil that colours this beautiful landscape in grey and light blue tones. It is often described as a lunatic landscape. This clay contains sea sediments of the Pliocene, which covered the area about 2.5 to 4.5 milion years ago. The landscape is characterized by bleaky and soft rolling hills, single oak and cypress trees, isoltaed farms on top of the hills, streches of forests in the valleys and large rainwater tanks. This area is well known for its white truffle and holds a village festival and a museum dedicated to the so called “Diamant of the Crete”

Thursday
Today the horses will have a day of rest, while we will go all together to Siena for a guided tour of the City of Palio. Surrounded by the Fortezza Medicea, the Piazza del Campo, the Torre del Mangia, the Cathedral and the streets of the historical center there is a lot to discover.
In the afternoon there will be a tasting of Chianti Classico wines with typical products at the Fattoria di Dievole.

Friday
Riders will be transfered to the horse stop. Departure from Mociano to turn back to the Equestrian Centre Borgo Cignano by horse.The itinerary of this last stage of our trip will lead us through the area of the Chianti Classico Senese. We will cross the Monaciano Estate, characterized by a main villa dating back to the 13th century and reach Borgo Scopeto dating back to the Middle Age with old buildings anciently used for rural craftsmanship. Along the route, which is characterized by vinyards and gardens that accompany us until the end of our journey, one can see the City of Siena with its Torre del Mangia and the Cathedral.
